What is involved in a Smile Makeover?
A smile make over is a process where a person improves their appearance by changing their teeth and gums. This can be achieved by changing the colour, position, shape, size or alignment to create a new smile. Their are many aspects to cosmetic dentistry. Whitening, bonding, crowns and bridgework, porcelain veneers, and dental implants are some of the ways we can help a patient to achieve a complete smile makeover.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
The results achieved from in-office whitening procedures are fast, convenient, long-lasting, and safe for nearly every dental patient. Even patients who suffer from sensitive teeth can often take advantage of this type of procedure. Overall, this is the most effective way to get your teeth their whitest and keep them that way for a long time!
At-Home Teeth Whitening
Another effective way to whiten your teeth is to do it at home using products provided by the dental office. Our team can provide you with custom fitted whitening trays and a professional strength whitening gel that you can use to safely whiten your teeth at home when it is convenient for you.
What results can I expect?
Although everyone is differnet, professional teeth whitening can generally lighten a patients teeth between six and ten shades.
How long does it last?
How long your teeth remain their lightest and brightest after teeth whitening depends on a few factors, including your diet (staining food and drink, i.e. red wine), habits (such as smoking) and age, but overall you can expect professional teeth whitening to last from many months to several years.
Cosmetic “bonding” involves using white filling material (composite resin) to change the shape of the teeth, repair small chips and cracks, and even to fix the alignment of slightly crooked teeth. We can also use this technique to close small gaps in between the teeth without relying on braces or other orthodontic appliances to move the teeth.
It is not always possible to repair severely chipped, broken or otherwise damaged teeth using white filling material. Sometimes we need to use a stronger restoration, such as a crown to repair and strengthen these areas. A crown (or cap) covers the entire tooth above the gumline and can be used to restore even a very broken down tooth to its original shape. A crown also helps to strengthen the compromised tooth and can prevent future cracking or chipping. One of our dentists will custom design your crown with a dental lab to ensure that it fits well and looks natural. Excellent oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups with our team at Summit Heights Dental will help to keep your new crown looking and feeling great for a very long time.
A bridge is one of the ways that we can replace a missing tooth or teeth. Sometimes it is even possible to replace an existing partial denture with a bridge; this means that you will no longer need to remove the appliance to clean your teeth and what a great feeling to not have to remove that old denture every night! Bridgework can give you a long-lasting, naturally beautiful looking smile.
Veneers are one of the procedures we are asked about most in the dental office. Porcelain veneers are a natural looking, affordable way to repair a damaged or uneven smile. If you have staining, chipped or cracked teeth, or any other issue that is making you feel self-conscious abut your smile, dental veneers may be the solution for you! Using this technology, we can dramatically enhance the look of your smile, usually in just two office visits.
Our dental team will custom design your veneers with you input. You can decide on the shape and colour of your veneers. This allows us to provide you with your most perfect, natural looking smile!
In simplified terms, a dental implant is an artificial root made from titanium, or sometimes ceramic that is permanently placed into the jaw bone which then supports a single artificial tooth or a permanent bridge or denture.
Dental implants are an affordable, reliable, and permanent way to replace one or more missing teeth.
Can I have Dental Implants?
Most people are good candidates for dental implants. Some important factors are good general and good dental health; these are important aspects in determining the outcome of a dental implant procedure. Additionally, the proper amount of bone in your jaw is necessary but often if there is not sufficient bone in the area, a bone graft may be done to provide enough support for the implant. A special 3D x-ray (CBCT) is used to allow the dentist to see how much bone you have and if grafting is necessary prior to implant placement.
